BluRay Production Begins AIX Records will be the first audiophile label to combine HD Video with their award-winning HD Audio recordings on BluRay discs. Accordibng to company founder and chief engineers, "We're unique among record labels because we shoot HD Video of the actual recording sessions. Previously, we've had to downconvert the HD Video to SD for the DVD-Video format. With the BluRay format, we can finally deliver our HD Video AND the 7.1 HD Audio mixes." Expect to see a new BD disc as part of the new AIX Records sampler, which is currently in production. It's been three years since our last sampler and there are a lot of new tracks that we want our customers to experience.
Our Shostakovich, Debussy and Brockman made the "Classical Caps" review section of the August issue of The Absolute Sound. Andrew Quint describes the sound of our production as "...the most stunningly natural digital sound I've ever heard." High praise coming from one of the most respected audiophile publications. When describing the MLP mix on the DVD-Audio side of the disc, Andrews continued, " This provide a "stage" perspective: listeners witness the concert from the aural vantage point of the pianist's page turner. The listening experience is extraordinarily involving, with the representation of the instruments practically holographic".
iTrax.com [our new online REAL HD Surround music download site] is finally up and functioning. You can visit the site, create a profile and download content from the AIX Records catalog. This has been a long time coming and there are things left to do...but the site is available! Please check it out and left us know what you think.
The EHX 2007 [Electronic House Expo] is coming November 7-9 in Long Beach and AIX Records will be there is a big way. Microsoft and AIX Records are sharing a Demo Alley room [102A] to show off our content playing through Media Servers and Extender Boxes. We will also have a booth on the main show floor with lots of our award-winning titles available for purchase...booth 1852. On Wednesday, company president Mark Waldrep, Ph.D. will be the moderator of a panel on "Leveraging Content for Media Servers Sales". Microsoft will be giving away copies of our most recent sampler disc to the first 700 visitors to the Demo Alley room,
The Absolute Sound magazine issued their annual 2007 "Golden Ear Awards" and AIX Records was among the winners! Anthony H. Cordesman, one of their senior reviewers and a well-respected authority on high end audio proclaimed "Thank God someone still pushes recording quality to the state of the art" referring to AIX Records. In a world that rarely focuses any attention on high definition audio formats, it was indeed an honor to receive kudos from such an respected source. It's apparent to those dedicated to better sound that music reproduction has advanced well beyond vinyl and CD. I can only hope that magazines, equipment manufacturers and consumers will opt to look forward, as Mr. Cordesman obviously has, rather than stay rooted in the past. Vinyl is NOT the ultimate in sound reproduction!
I'm the number one fan of John Gorka, a singer/songwriter originally from New Jersey and now living in Minnesota. It was about 10 years ago that I got hooked on his voice, songs and sentiments. This guy is the real deal! That was log before I imagined founding and operating a high definition, surround audio/video music label, but after some introductions and demonstrations John agreed to collaborate on a Collectors Edition DVD project. It's complete and it's called The Gypsy Life! The two-disc / four-sided set is a comprehensive exploration of his musical life, songs and influences. There are photos, a discography, music videos and lots more...but it's the music that will send you over the top!
Imagine John coming to your media room with his musician friends and playing a private performance just for you. That's the goal and we both believe that we succeeded. Joined by Susan Werner, Amilia K. Spicer, Russ Rentler and longtime collaborator Michael Manring, John performs 19 of his best songs including: I Saw A Stranger With Your Hair, I'm From New Jersy, Let Them In and Mercy of the Wheels. Shot in HD Video and combined with two different 5.1 surround music mixes, this is the ultimate presentation of acoustic vocal music.
If you happen to live in the southern California area [or are willing to travel], we will be hosting a DVD release party for the new John Gorka - The Gypsy Life DVD. We'll be selling the new title and playing lots of audio and video from it prior to John's evening performance at McCabes [which is right around the corner]. Space will limited, so if you're interested please email me: mwaldrep@aixrecords.com
Ernest Ranglin's Order of Distinction Collectors Edition DVD set has been receiving some great reviews recently. The September issue of The Absolute Sound, which rarely pays attention to DVD-Audio releases, apparently couldn't resist the "luxuriant, naturally immediate sound" and the "dizzying variety of sound and visual options". The disc was also featured on the Cool Spins section of Mix magazine's online issue recently. Mix is a professional audio engineers magazine. Blair Jackson wrote, "The music is beautifully shot and the audio is superb!
AIX Records attended the Home Entertainment 2007 show in New York last spring. In a new location, we sold out of our award-winning discs in spite of the fact that the hotel and show management screwed up and double booked the room on Saturday...we had to close business 2 hours early and vacate the place. In a room that was full of crates showing off the latest vinyl pressings, I think we were alone in playing and selling high definition, multi channel audio. But it was great for those that stopped by. My favorite customer was a member of the NYPD named Armondo. On Friday, he stopped by asking about our little label and purchased a copy of The Latin Jazz Trio. He took home a copy of the A High Resolution Audio Experience sampler. Armondo was apparently very impressed because he came back the next day and purchase three or four more titles including Laurence Juber's Guitar Noir and Ernest Ranglin's Order of Distinction. On Sunday, the last day of the show, Armondo came back yet again with his buddies. Apparently, they had a listening party the previous evening and now everyone wanted to get some of our titles! Armondo and his friends in the NYPD are regular customers...one listen and we gotcha.
AIX Records won the first DEMMY Award for Best High Resolution, Multi-Channel Track against a very high profile group of finalists! In addition to being reviewed as the "No. 1 Best sounding multi-channel audio release, "Mosaic" from Laurence Juber's - Guitar Noir DVD-Audio/Video has topped the Consumer Electronics Association list. Other finalists included Pink Floyd, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, The Grateful Dead and Diana Krall. Winners were announced at the CEA's PARA Management Conference in San Diego on May 14, 2005.
