Patrice Rushen, piano
Born September 30, 1954, Patrice Rushen was a child prodigy growing up in Los Angeles. She began studying classical piano at the age of three and turned to jazz and R/B in her early teens. She attended and graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in piano performance. Patrice Rushen has experienced success as a "sideman" for the likes of Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Lee Ritenour, Sonny Rollins, Abbey Lincoln and Donald Byrd, as a solo artist with a Top 10 commercial hit [Forget Me Nots] and well-respected jazz and R/B performer and, finally, as a producer/musical director for Sheena Easton and Janet Jackson. Truely, one of the great pianists of the genre, Patrice Rushen has released 12 albums, one of which was nominated for a Grammy.
