General Information In February of 2003, Roberto Prosseda came to California to perform and record a project with composer/pianist Michael Glenn Williams. AIX Records was fortunate enough to make his acquaintance and get the opportunity to record his amazing talent. He has won numerous international piano competitions and now travels extensively performing and lecturing. About the Recording Approach This recording is NOT an attempt to "document" a live recording of a piano, but instead an exploration of high-resolution recording coupled with several different mixing techniques. There are four mixes included on this single sided disc: 5.1 audience and 5.1 stage mixes, a PCM stereo mix done at 96 kHz/24 bits and a 96 kHz/24 bit 5.1 audience mix encoded with Meridian Lossless Packing [MLP]. The MLP track is the highest possible quality, but is only playable on DVD-Audio hardware. You can be placed in the middle of ensemble and hear the sound of the instrumental sections coming from all directions or move yourself into the audience and hear the music from the best seat in the house. Listen to familiar music in an entirely new way. About the Disc This CD/DVD is prepared according to the DVD-Audio specification but contains tracks that are completely compatible with existing DVD-Video machines. There are 4 Groups included on the disc, each containing its own version of the compositions. Group 1, playable only on DVD-Audio machines, is the MLP track. Group 2 is the PCM stereo mix, Group 3 is the Dolby Digital 5.1 Audience mix and Group 4 is the 5.1 Stage mix encoded using DTS. About the DVD-Audio The DVD-Video side also contains a comprehensive explanation of the DVD format [including DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and DVD-ROM], digital encoding methodologies [AC-3, DTS, PCM and MLP], instructions on how to setup your 5.1 channel surround system, test tones/channel IDs checks and demonstrations comparing stereo mixes to 5.1 mixes.
