General Information

What happens when you combine one of the world's truly great jazz pianists, a sensitive bass player and virtuoso drummer with state-of-the-art 96 kHz/24 bit multi track recording technology? A recording that allows all of the nuances and instrumental color to come to life in your playback system. This is not just a HiRes recording of three brilliant musicians, but rather an experiment in mixing jazz in 5.1 channel surround sound. The listening perspective places you in the midst of the sound or in the best seat in the club depending on your preference. The entire session was captured on video, allowing you to go behind the scenes of this amazing product. If you want to experience high-resolution audio and 5.1 channel surround mixes of a world class jazz ensemble, this DVD-Audio/Video is one of the best available. About the Recording Approach

This recording is NOT an attempt to "document" a live recording of Patrice Rushen and her trio, but instead an exploration of high-resolution recording coupled with aggressive 5.1 channel surround mixing. While both an "audience" and "stage" mix are included on the disc on the DVD-Video side, it is the DVD-Audio 96 kHz/24 bit tracks encoded with Meridian Lossless Packing [MLP] that elevates the listening experience well beyond a traditional CD or even a live event. You are placed in the middle of ensemble and hear the sound of the instruments coming from all directions. The dynamic range and fidelity offered by the 96 kHz/24 Bit source recording makes this recording come to life.
