    General Information

Our first sampler disc was lauded as being one of the best sources of information and demonstration material on the new DVD-Audio format. Over the past two years we've given away 10,000 copies of that disc. When it came time to produce a second sampler, we took all of the suggestions that we received from our customers and reviewers and built them into this current disc. There are more test tones, some examples of 192 kHz/24-bit stereo recording, lots of demonstration tracks from the latest AIX Records releases, and over 500 screens of information on the world of high-resolution audio. The disc is not merely a sampler any longer (maybe it wasn't from the outset) and we thought it deserved a new name. The AIX Records DVD-Audio/Video Start Here Demonstration and Test Disc is a comprehensive exploration into this new phase of music delivery...we hope you agree..

    About the Tracks

All of the tracks on both the DVD-Audio and DVD-Video side of the disc we recorded especially for our label at high-resolution. These are not simple transfers of older analog multitracks or upsampled digital conversions...this is the REAL thing. We use the best microphones (in stereo pairs!), the finest preamplifiers, premium cables, and state-of-the-art analog to digital converters with live musicians in a wonderfully reverberant performance space to make these tracks. No equalization, dynamics processing, or artificial reverberation is used during production...everything is captured as it was played. The post production stage involves only balances and spatial placement within the 5.1 or stereo field.

    About the Information

One of my colleagues recently asked me why I went to so much trouble, spent so much time and money to create a disc of this much depth. Isn't it overkill to define all the terminology, layout all of the diagrams, and mix custom version of our tracks? I think so. Maybe it's the professor in me that wants to help interested audio fans find out about something that matters so much to me...great sound and how to get it.! I believe in producing products of the highest quality. I will not compromise on the audio quality. I'm convinced that the more you know about high-resolution audio and 5.1 channel surround sound, the more likely it is that you will acquire some or all of our products. So here's a disc that you can really dig in to. I plan to make it required "reading" for my Advanced Digital Audio and Production Seminar.
