General Information

It's been over 2 years since the completion of our last sampler. During that time, we've recorded a lot of new tracks and begun to capture all of our new video using high-definition equipment. I started producing the new "High-Resolution Audio Experience" back in the summer but it got a major push when Intel decided to acquire copies to assist with their new Digital Home marketing initiative called Viiv(tm). That put the project on the fast track because it had to be done by early September for the CEDIA show. We made it. Our new sampler disc is a DVD-14 (the previous ones were DVD-10s), a double-layer DVD-Video side coupled with a DVD-Audio disc. You can choose to listen to any of the 29 tracks in 2-different surround mixes ["Stage" and "Audience"] as well as high-resolution stereo, watch 11 tracks shot in HiDef and hear demos that compare and contrast Stereo vs. surround. The disc comes handsomely packaged in a 4 panel digipak and includes a 16-page full color catalog. This is the definitive demonstration disc!

About the Tracks

All of the tracks on both the DVD-Audio and DVD-Video side of the disc we recorded especially for our label at high-resolution. These are not simple transfers of older analog multitracks or upsampled digital conversions...this is the REAL thing. We use the best microphones (in stereo pairs!), the finest preamplifiers, premium cables, and state-of-the-art analog to digital converters with live musicians in a wonderfully reverberant performance space to make these tracks. No equalization, dynamics processing, or artificial reverberation is used during production...everything is captured as it was played. The post production stage involves only balances and spatial placement within the 5.1 or stereo field.

The tracks are divided into subgroups by genre. You can choose to listen to everything or focus on a specific type of music. Included at Acoustic/Instrumental, Acoustic/Vocal/Classical [solo, chamber orchestra], Electric/Instrumental, Jazz/Instrumental, Jazz/Vocal and Pop/R&B/Blues/Vocal.
About the Information

One of my colleagues recently asked me why I went to so much trouble, spent so much time and money to create a disc of this much depth. Isn't it overkill to define all the terminology, layout all of the diagrams, and mix custom versions of our tracks? I think so. Maybe it's the professor in me that wants to help interested audio fans find out about something that matters so much to me...great sound and how to get it! I believe in producing products of the highest quality because music fans deserve thebest...and they can hear the difference. I will not compromise on the audio quality. I'm convinced that the more you know about high-resolution audio and 5.1 channel surround sound, the more likely it is that you will acquire some or all of our products. So here's a disc that you can really dig in to. I plan to make it required "reading" for my Advanced Digital Audio and Production Seminar. Have fun and let me know what you think.
