"A High-Resolution Audio Experience"
AIX Records New Sampler/Demo Disc Is Now Available!

It's been over two years since our last sampler/demo disc and we've very excited to share our recent 5.1 high-resolution recordings...this time with video shot in HD!

In early August, I received an email message from someone at Intel asking about "Mosaic" from Laurence Juber's - Guitar Noir AIX Records release. Earlier in the year, "Mosaic" had won the first Demmy Award for "Best High-Resolution, 5.1 Surround Track presented by the CEA. Intel wanted to use the track on a compilation disc to be distributed at CEDIA (the custom installers group) convention held in Indianapolis in early September. After a couple of phone conversations, some additional listening and with the deadline looming, Intel decided to use our new sampler instead of making their own. There was only one problem...we hadn't yet finished the new sampler (in fact, we hadn't really started!). Well, in a matter of about a month, the AIX team finished the task. A completely new DVD-14 with over 500 new screens written and designed, 20 menus created and animated, 29 audio tracks mixed 3 different ways, 11 video edits (shot in HD), additional test tones created, a 16-page full color catalog of all AIX products encased inside of a 4-panel custom digipak! The first batch of A High-Resolution Audio Experience was delivered right to the convention center and available for FREE to visitors to the Intel booth. It was a major effort on everyone's part but was very well-received by attendees and by the press. CE-PRO.com's headline says Intel Produces Killer Demo Disc.

I've decided to make this disc FREE with the purchase of two discs (or a single Collector's Edition Disc). However as a courtesy to readers of this newsletter, I'll make it available free with the purchase of a single regular disc. Just mention this offer in the comments section of the ordering process or write to me directly. There's music in a variety of genres, great new video and even an HD file available in H.264 format for computers with the new version of QuickTime. The new High-Resolution Audio Experience disc is the best sampler we/ve ever produced...it may be the most comprehensive demonstration disc available anywhere!

The Carl Verheyen Band Collectors Edition DVD
Collects First Ever DualDisc DVD Award!

With 4 Finalist Nominations and the DualDisc Award, the CVB Disc Takes Top Honors in August Program!

Our first DVD project shot using HD cameras and second to include a DualDisc was officially released on September 20, 2005, but the reviews and accolades have already been piling up forThe Carl Verheyen Band: Acoustic, Electric & LIve". In case you don't already know, Carl Verheyen has been the guitarist for Supertramp since 1985, has his own trio with Cliff Hugo and Bernie Dresel (sometimes Chad Wackerman) and works continuously in the studios of Los Angeles. As I've told a number of my associates, Carl got the job I aspired to when I came to California way back in 1973. Leonard Maltin recognized Carl's disc during the EMX conference at the 8th annual DVD Awards. I spoke to him after the event and was heartened to hear him say, "it's great that quality work gets recognized over name recognition. Congratulations on a very well done project."

Widescreen Review praised the disc with their highest rating SUPERB! John Kotches, their surround reviewer went on to say, "This is how all discs should sound!" Rad Bennett wrote about the CVB at the UltraAudio website, "... here is high-definition-like video that is the best I have seen for any music presentation. The opening shot is of Verheyen's fingers on his guitar. The strings have sheen, his fingers have pores and prints, and it all looks real enough to touch. I would be very surprised if this two-disc set does not top many best-of-the-year lists."

I particularly enjoyed reading this:
Goodness, Waldrep and AIX have done it again. Just got the new two-disc Collector's Edition of Rumor Mill...and I'm simply speechless. Acoustic and electric sets, shot in hi-def (downconverted beautifully), the requisite audiophile AIX sonics, and absolutely breathtaking performances.

I am probably doing Verheyen a disservice by comparing him to other guitarists, but if one is unfamiliar with his playing, think of Eric Johnson's bluesy style and silky tone, and some of Holdsworth's blistering intervalic solo runs.

Amazing and highly recommended!

Needless to say we're very pleased with this project and so is Carl. If you're a fan of great guitar playing (both acoustic and electric) and wonderful compositions, this AIX Collectors Edition disc might be best you'll find.

AIX Records Has Moved!
After 13 years in West Hollywood we've relocated to Wet Los Angeles...and are building a new studio!

It was a little sad and definitely a lot of work, but after 14 years leasing a space in West Hollywood we've moved to the west side. A great building became available and we snatched it up. High ceilings, lots of room for our expanding inventory and a shorter commute. We've set up a temporary studio and have engaged Studio: Bauton to design our new mixing/theater room. The plans include a very large "living room" type control room equipped with an HD projection screen and our reference surround playback system from Meridian, Butler, B&W and Piega. This is going to be my dream facility...comfortable and state-of-the-art! I'll post some pictures as the construction progresses.

Jonathan McEuen (of Hanna-McEuen) "One Step Ahead" Is Complete
The amazingly talented son of Nitty Gritty member John McEuen comes into his own.

I first experienced Jonathan McEuen at the restored Ashgrove in Santa Monica as he accompanied his dad over 5 years ago. His playing was astounding but when he stepped up to the microphone and sang a couple of tunes, the room knew that this young man had a very special gift. He has not disappointed. As half of the country duo Hanna-McEuen, he is touring constantly and has charted a couple of records. It's pretty fun to turn on the radio and hear a song coming through the speakers from someone you know.

Jonathan played an acoustic and electric guitar for our "One Step Ahead" session with Jesse Siebenberg, Randy Tico and Chester Cooley assisting. The tracks are straightforward, emotionally honest and bring Jonathan's artistry into your listening room as simply as possible. There is none of the big production stuff on these tracks. We had the chance capture a second session as part of the Brand New Opry project in January of this year...in HD. I've included two tracks with Jaime Hanna as a bonus...and tease for the new project. Check this one out!
