Drummer Simon Phillips and keyboardist Jeff Babko are featured on Vantage Point - Resolution
with Brandon Fields on saxophone, Walt Fowler on trumpet and Alphonso Johnson on bass

I mastered a live Toto DVD some many months ago and got to know Simon Phillips, the drummer in that band. I asked if he would be interested in doing a straight ahead jazz release and this DVD, shot using HD cameras, is the result. "Vantage Point - Resolution" is a collection of seven new tunes written by Simon and his partner Jeff Babko, keyboardist for Jimmy Kimmel Live and frequent contributor to recordings by west coast jazz musicians.

The discs have only just arrived but excitement at the prospect of hearing Simon and Jeff together again with their collaborators as Vantage Point generated more pre-orders than any other disc we're released. Check out the "Vantage Point" web link to listen to a couple of selections. I've even managed to post a segment of the video for a tune called "Pall's Mall".

The disc is loaded with extras: rehearsal footage, introductions to the tunes, interviews, band history AND a very funny easter egg...let me know if you find it. As usual, there are 4 different audio presentations on the double sided disc.

The Brand New Opry Vol. I - Another Time features Jonathan McEuen, Phil Salazar, Jaime Hanna, John McEuen...
with Mark Searcy, Tom Corbett, Randy Tico, Orest Balaban and Nathan McEuen

One of AIX Records' most highly regarded discs is the "Nitty Gritty Surround" which features John McEuen, Jimmy Ibbotson and special guests Jennifer Warnes and Laurie Lewis. The Brand New Opry Vol. I follows in the spirit of that award-winning disc but does it with a select group of pickers and singers from the Ojai/Ventura area of California.

This recording is a collection of great songs accompanied by acoustic guitars, mandolin, banjo, acoustic bass and fiddle. As an extra special treat, Jaime Hanna [Jonathan's partner in the country/rock duo Hanna-McEuen] joined in on a couple of songs...great singing and close harmonies. Check out The Brand New Opry Vol. I web link to listen to Mark Searcy's rendition of Grand Ole Opry. Here's a link to a segment of the video for a tune called "Lowlands".

The Brand New Opry was shot in HD video and is loaded with premium features: live footage, interviews, H.264 Video AND complete lyrics. The 5.1 surround mixes bring you inside the music...this disc delivers a private performance in your media room.

AIX Records New Studio Is Nearing Completion
It's been a long 5 months, but our new theater/studio is getting close to completion

I've been involved with home remodeling and I've done some build outs in previous offices/studios but I've never taken a construction project from the ground up. Well, I'm very pleased to say that the new AIX Records ultimate home theater and mixing studio is nearing completion. I know the picture to the left shows bare walls but trust me there's plywood and two layers of dry wall up, the electrical is finished and the troughs are full of cables. All that remains is the new maple floor and the interior sound treatments. I've been talking to the Crestron people about acquiring touch panels and a central box for lighting controls, curtain motors etc. If there's any installers or vendors among our customer base that want to get involved with the final stages of this state-of-the-art room, please feel free to contact me. This will be a very public room for demonstrations and I've never been shy about equipment that I employ while producing or showing off our work. Euphonix, Meridian, Piega, Cardas, Denon, Dolby, Intel and Runco have all supported us in the past and I'm open to new relationships.

One of the items I need to research is the 100 inch screen and HD projector that I'll be using to demonstrate our HD programming. Any suggestions will be very welcome.

The plan is to roll out the new digs with a big party sometime in the next few months. The L.A./Orange County Audiophile Society is coming up for a tour in June...a great local group of dedicated listeners. If you're in the local area and want to get on the invite list, drop me a line. The plan is to celebrate in April or May.

Jonathan McEuen "One Step Ahead" Reviews/Comments
The solo side of Jonathan McEuen wins some new fans!

John Kotches of Widescreen Review included a very encouraging review in the March copy the magazine amongst reviews for Jackson Browne, Aaron Neville and The Talking Heads...pretty good company. Especially, if you receive marks as high or higher than the others. "From the opening track, the clarity of this disc is breathtaking." His comments are summed up by the words "awesome presentation". Thanks for a great review John!

I received an email from a customer in the Midwest saying, "The songs and performances on Jonathan's new DVD are astonishing. I love the sound of his voice, especially the honesty of Ocean. Great work, Mark! Keep it up."

There are some links to audio and video at the "One Step Ahead"

Check this one out!
